The association Český modrý mák, z. s. (Czech Blue Poppy) lent its exhibition panels on the topic Poppy – Hemp – Drugs: Helpers and Tempters of Humanity for this year’s 64th exhibition of medicinal plants organized by the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University at the Center of Medicinal Plants in Brno. The botanical garden of the Center of Medicinal Plants, Faculty of Medicine MU, is one of the largest collections of medicinal and useful plants in the Czech Republic and has long been involved in education and public outreach.
The exhibition offers a broad view of the use of poppy and hemp – from their historical cultivation to their current use in food production, pharmacy, and industry. The panels created by our association present, among other topics:
- nutritional benefits of poppy seeds and food safety,
- the importance of the Protected Geographical Indication Český modrý mák,
- and the broader context of poppy and hemp cultivation in relation to drug misuse and prevention.
The exhibition also features a section dedicated to industrial hemp, whose applications range from the textile industry to sustainable construction.
